5 Pubs to Visit in Kaunas this Summer

As this summer has been anything but cold in Kaunas, here are our recommendations for a pleasant night out and about – can you visit them all during a stay in our city?

One of the vital elements of a good vacation is time to contemplate and relax. Time to recollect what you saw during the day, people you’ve met and places you’ve visited. One of the best ways to do that is while sitting back in a cosy pub – or its outdoor terrace, if the weather permits. As this summer has been anything but cold in Kaunas, here are our recommendations for a pleasant night out and about – can you visit them all during a stay in our city?

Vingiu Dubingiu

Craft beer lovers have been praising Vingiu Dubingiu, a pub located in a cute blue wooden house in downtown Kaunas, for years now. The small minimalist spot offers various drinks from Lithuania, Poland, Estonia etc. – those you can’t get anywhere else, basically. Very popular between philosophers and other scholars from neighbouring universities, also bicyclists, Its courtyard has also been frequented by food trucks of all kinds. Now they have their very own one, focused on all things smoked. Grill on wheels, in other words – and you don’t have to go anywhere. P.S. We recommend the tacos!

Hop Doc

Strange times in the Old Town – the main pedestrian boulevard, Vilniaus st., has been closed for a long-awaited renovation. This means restaurants, shops, cafes, and galleries cannot invite their guests at least until Christmas. But this might be the chance for residents and visitors to (re)discover other parts of the Old Town. M. Daukšos street, for example, is home to Hop Doc. The name says it all – the bartenders know all about those hoppy drinks. They can also recommend a perfect food combination. Believe us; the tuna burger is something to come back for.

Kuhne

Some might say Kuhne is more focused on pulled pork burgers and ribs than other artefacts of a pub, but maybe, just maybe, they haven’t visited the original spot’s new terrace with views to two magnificent modernist buildings, the Christ’s Resurrection Basilica and the Jablonskis gymnasium? The residents and visitors of Žaliakalnis are thankful for this extension. And then there’s another Kuhne near Girstupis swimming pool and the new Ice arena – we love the neighbourhood vibe there.

Genys Taproom

If you prefer to stay downtown and are keen to discover drinks brewed right here in Kaunas, Genys (‘Woodpecker’) is the place. Enjoy a glass of a craft delicacy with a view of Soboras – and your new acquaintances, a crowd of IT specialists, startup people and hip designers.

Hogas Pub

This one’s a best-kept secret, which is oh so pleasant to discover. Who knew a fantastic cosy courtyard full of pleasant grill aroma has been hiding in the shadow of Akropolis, the big mall near Nemunas river? Well, now you know. The interior is just as impressive! Get there both thirsty and hungry – and prepare to leave later than planned. Hogas is turning three this July – hooray!
