„Culture in the time of corona“: The European Capital of Culture Forum invites for a discussion on the challenges faced by and the future of culture

The third European Capital of Culture Forum organised by “Kaunas – European Capital of Culture 2022” will take place on May 20–22. It goes virtual and invites for discussion on the significance of culture.

The pandemic that has made the world stop not only encouraged the creators of culture to re-examine their mission and quickly find alternative ways of doing things, but opened up the vital necessity of culture and arts for the audience confronted with the crisis. Life has changed unrecognizably: textile factories are making masks, automobile plants are producing respirators, perfumeries are making disinfectants. And what about culture? What significance will culture gain in the post-pandemic world and how will we change as its audience and participants?

“Progressive examples of cultural actions and adaptation provide hope that we are capable of getting over this critical time, also becoming stronger. We will invite the participants of this virtual forum to join the speakers and discuss the experience of the cultural sector developed in a critical situation, as well as the opportunities that have emerged. We will discuss the insights of culture triggered by our confrontation with the crisis, how do the European cultural creators and organisers experience quarantine and its consequences, and what are the possible scenarios for reorientation of arts and culture”, says Ana Čižauskienė, Head of the Programme at “Kaunas 2022”.
