It’s Back: Kaunas International Carillon Music Festival

The audience will have a chance to hear pieces from Polish, American and French films, well-known and slightly forgotten classics and various folkloric rhythms.

The second Kaunas International Carillon Music Festival will take place on 1-2 September at Vytautas the Great War Museum Garden (K. Donelaičio st. 64).

As we witnessed last year, the carillon sounds will set the festive yet humble tone to the first weekend of autumn.

Continuing the thematic line of last year, the second edition will feature classical, folk and electronic music, performed by well-known Lithuanian carillonneurs and guests from abroad.

Organised by Kaunas Artists’ House (located just across the street and well worth a visit!), the festival is pleased to host a diverse group of carillonneurs in Kaunas: Tiffany Ng (US), Erik Kure (DK), Monika Kaźmierczak (PL), Austėja Staniunaitytė, Julius Vilnonis and Stanislovas Žilevičius (LT).

The music selection for the festival is genuinely varied: the audience will have a chance to hear pieces from Polish, American and French films, well-known and slightly forgotten classics and various folkloric rhythms.

The citizens of Kaunas and city guests will also have the opportunity to take a peek inside the carillon tower: the concerts will be broadcasted live on a big screen at the square.

The Kaunas carillon, one of three in Lithuania (the others are in Vilnius and Klaipėda) belongs to Vytautas the Great War Museum. The tower for it was built in 1937. Regular concerts for Kaunas carillon have been going on for over 60 years, with Viktoras Kuprevičius and his son Giedrius Kuprevičius being the first carillonists in Kaunas. We've blogged about the Kaunas carillon before - here's the story!
