So it’s Friday 5 pm; you shut down your laptop, call a cab and, in 10 minutes, dive into crisp white sheets and pillows, start sipping a drink, check out the snack menu and turn on your favourite TV series… Or maybe a long hot shower first? Whatever you decide – it’s your staycation, after all!
Travelling to foreign countries is not currently a recommended option, and because of Lithuanian regulations, we can’t even visit the local resorts if they are in another municipality. So the only way to escape reality is discovering the hospitality scene in Kaunas. We decided to start with the newest hotel in town – Moxy Kaunas Center. Opened last year, it’s located in the heart of the city, near Laisvės alėja, next to Lithuanian bank’s beautiful historic building. Moxy is a stylish hotel meant to please party animals of all kinds and offering complete privacy for those who just want a good rest. What happens in Moxy stays in Moxy…
Moxy surprises you as soon as you enter the building. The ground floor’s open spaces resemble a hip gastropub, decorated with various distinctive furniture and interior decisions, full of books and table games… and a bar! Yes, the front desk is also a bar at the same time, so you can order a drink while you check in, or vice versa. Because of the quarantine, the friendly staff will kindly ask you to have the drink in your room, which also goes for food. Do pay attention to the wall paintings while you wait – they are dedicated to the colourful Lithuanian langage and translate some of our funniest sayings to English.
As we mentioned before, Moxy is centrally located, so you can do some quality sightseeing while staying here. For example, the National Kaunas Drama Theatre, which is some 150 m from the hotel, offers an open-air exhibition in its yards, dedicated to the theatre’s centenary. There’s also a photo exhibition in the underground parking of Moxy. Walk a few hundred meters up Maironio street to discover the modernist architecture heaven – V. Putvinskio street. The Old Town is also a 15-min walk away.
Getting lunch and dinner delivered to the hotel (if you’re done with Moxy’s menu) is not a problem. Just across the street, there’s a creative kitchen making fine ramen soups and other delicacies – check Umami. Plenty of other restaurants are available on Wolt and Bolt apps.
The first in the Baltics, Moxy Kaunas Centre by Marriott was opened in 2020. The hotel was designed by “G. Natkevičius ir partneriai”. The interior design is the masterpiece of “RYČIO ČIMKAUS Studija Balt – A” (Rytis Čimkus, Agnė Kirslienė, Sandra Žukauskė).
Book a staycation at Moxy on Booking.com or Marriott.Com. Yes, the hotel is pet friendly and even has a dog bar! Don’t forget to tag your experiences with #atthemoxy and #kaunastic. Have a good time, and we’re off to another hotel for some more rest…
