Tourism Numbers in 2019: Many More Kaunastic Guests!

Compared to 2018, we had an extraordinary growth of guests by 10% and an impressive rise by 16% for nights booked.

2019 was a great year to visit Kaunas, and the decisions of both local travellers and foreign guests reflect perfectly in the newest numbers provided by the Lithuanian Department of Statistics. Last year, 349 530 guests booked classified accommodation and spent a total of 650 336 nights in Kaunas. Compared to 2018, that’s an extraordinary growth of guests by 10% and an impressive rise by 16% for nights booked.

67,6% of guests in hotels, campings and guest houses of Kaunas were from other countries – that’s 11% more compared to 2018. Here’s residents of which countries tend to visit us most:

1. Germany (26698 guests (+14%); 55049 nights booked (+4%); 

2. Poland (22160 guests (+23%); 35581 nights booked (+37%); 

3. Russia (20339 guests (+9%); 32046 nights booked (+17%);

4. Ukraine (16881 guest (+26%); 56064 nights booked (+140%);

5. Latvia (16614 guests (+6%); 23829 nights booked (+12%);

6. Finland (15600 guests (+58%); 29843 nights booked (+91%);

7. Estonia (14237 guests (+9%); 19992 nights booked (+8%);

8. The UK (11829 guests (+4%); 25630 nights booked (+4%);

9. Belarus (9064 guests (+4%); 14092 nights booked (+11%);

10. Italy (7491 guest (+27%); 14529 nights booked (+15%).

4134 (+48%) Chinese guests visited Kaunas in 2019. Moreover, 58% more Israelis discovered our city last year – that is 3998 guests.

Last year, the hotels of Kaunas were the busiest in May (81.3% of rooms busy), June (80.2% of rooms busy) and August (80.9% of rooms busy). The most vacancies were in January.

One last number we’re particularly happy about... 120012 people visited the Kaunas IN Tourism Information Centres in 2019 – that’s 6000 more than in 2018! We hope even more people discover the kaunastic feeling in 2020. See you in Kaunas?
