Kaunas and the whole Lithuania is currently under quarantine to control the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19). We’re all in this together, and we’re trying our best – people are encouraged to work from home, kids stay at home as schools are closed (universities, too), and all public and cultural institutions and shops (except pharmacies and grocery stores) are also closed. Bars and restaurants are no exception – the regulation is that it’s not possible to serve customers inside premises.
This is a tough time for hundreds of local small businesses, often run by young enthusiasts and families. We are very sorry to see posts on social media declaring “We’re closing for at least two weeks” (for now, the quarantine is until March 30).
The good thing is some of the places still operate and offer takeaway or home delivery. Yes! This means you can 1) enjoy your favourite meals from your favourite places, or simply not to cook (which is essential if you do work full time) without having to leave the house (which is recommended); 2) support businesses and help them say alive.
Our favourite app at the moment is Wolt, a super-comfortable food delivery service that lists menus of numerous restaurants and other food places. Their speedy delivery team offers contactless delivery which is highly recommended.
As of March 17, you can book lunch or dinner from O kodėl ne? and O kodėl ne pica?, B20, Baking Mad, Buon Giorno Trattoria, Mama Pizza, Holy Donut, Bazooka, Thai House, Talutti, Tuk Tuk Indija, Masalaciti, Sushi Express and more. Basically, pizza, burger and Asian food lovers are well covered! We are joking, of course, the selection is broader. Godo, a kaunastic cultural bar with lots of interesting choices, should jump in soon.
Fact is, the situation is shaky, so you’ll find the most up-to-date list in the app itself. It’s available for both Apple and Android phones.
Stay healthy – and don’t be hungry!
