New Year’s Night in Pažaislis Monastery Ensemble
Monte Pacis, the unique hospitality complex at the marvellous baroque monastery by the Kaunas Reservoir, invites you and your family to a festive six- or a four-course dinner accompanied with live music. At 11 pm, you’ll attend the holy mass at Pažaislis monastery church. When the clock strikes midnight, the greetings will be shared by the festive bonfire in the Carriage square of the complex. Bernelių užeiga is a chain of traditional Lithuanian restaurants; its branch in the Old Town will focus on the interwar period, considered the golden age of Kaunas. Don’t know how to dance the swing? Kaunas State Philharmonic have teamed up with the Kaunas City Symphony Orchestra and are inviting you to a pleasant music afternoon starting at 4 pm. G. Bizet, A. L. Webber, L. Bernstein, Westlife, R. Rodgers and beyond! Tickets;
VMU Main Hall, the go-to place for fans of jazz and world music, will be all about Johann Strauss on the New Year’s Eve. The concert by the VMU Chamber Orchestra will start at 7 pm. Tickets;
Žalgirio arena, the biggest multifunctional venue in the Baltics, will witness the tete-a-tete of two rock music mohicans. Chris Norman will meet its Lithuanian soul brother Gytis Paškevičius. Both artists will perform with their bands and will present an array all of greatest hits. Fireworks included. The official Kaunas New Year’s party will be held at the Town Hall Square and is scheduled to start at 10:30 pm. On the programme is an open-air disco, so expect to dance a lot. Free of charge;
On 11:30 pm in Vytautas the Great War Museum Garden, the bells of the carillon will warm everyone up with some of the most festive music ever. Performed by Julius Vilnonis. Free of charge;
For electronic music-fueled night owls, the biggest recommendation is Lizdas (Lithuanian for 'nest'), where at least seven DJs will mix their skills and the first vibes of 2019. More information.
