This house is a special place that commemorates two great personalities who have left a distinct imprint on Lithuanian cultural history. It was the home of opera soloist Adelė Nezabitauskaitė-Galaunienė (1895-1962), famous for her talent and contribution to the country's musical life, and her husband Paulius Galaunė (1890-1988), a pioneer of Lithuanian professional museology, an art historian, educator and a cultural figure.
In 1932, on the initiative and at the expense of the family, this house was built according to the design of the famous architect Arnas Funkas, and became not only their living space, but also the focal point of spiritual culture.
On 14 December 1996, the Galaunė Family House-Museum, a subdivision of the National M. K. Čiurlionis Art Museum, opened its doors to visitors.
Thanks to the efforts of Kazimiera Galaunienė, the second wife of P. Galaunė, a memorial exposition has been set up here, inviting visitors to get acquainted with the life of Adelė and Paulius Galaunė, the values they cherished, and the treasures they accumulated, such as graphic art works, ex-librises, bibliophilic books, and collections of folklore art.
Visitors will not only be able to get to know the owners of the house, who gave so much to Lithuanian culture and their legacy, but also will have the opportunity to leave the museum with the Žaliakalnis district's "Collect Kaunas" magnet!
