We’re pretty sure every city in Europe has a Christmas tradition that’s worth witnessing, but Kaunas is indeed a special place during the holiday season. At least because we have set a Christmas tree-related world record in 2011! This year, the Christmas season will start in the end of November and you are of course welcome to join the #kaunastic celebrations.
But first, let’s take a look at some of the most interesting Christmas trees that have been set up in Kaunas Town Hall Square in recent years. They’re usually named the best-looking trees in Lithuania, and, as we mentioned above, in 2011 the very green tree made from 40,000 recycled plastic bottles set the world record for the Largest Christmas tree made of plastic bottles, according to World Record Academy.

The tradition of extraordinary Christmas trees will be continued this year – on November 26th, an unconventional tree reminding of a deconstructed carousel and inviting everyone to gather around it will be lit in the Town Hall Square.
The opening will be accompanied by classical music and a show by La Compagnie des Quidams, a French street threater company that will impress everyone with gigantic horses and other fairy-tale creatures. Here’s a little glimpse to what the company is all about.
You’ll be able to visit the Christmas tree and the Christmas market (its official opening will be held on December 3rd) in the Town Hall Square till January 8th, 2017. See you!
