It’s new and it’s BIG! The brand new Kaunas bus station on Vytauto pr. 24 is ready for its opening on Tuesday, Jan 24th. The construction in the site of the old and outdated station started in November 2015 - the bus station was temporarily relocated to the Akropolis mall during that period. „Kautra“, the local bus company, have invested more than 9 million Eur to the object.
The shiny international bus station, designed by architect Gintaras Balčytis and his team, is ready to serve at least 700 buses, or at least 10 000 people, every day. A grocery store and a handful of shops and other retail places, including a bookstore and a Subway - first in Kaunas - are located inside, as well as a self-service ticket terminal.
The journalists from Kas vyksta Kaune were lucky enough to visit the bus station before the official opening - here are a few snapshots they’ve done.
