JONAS JABLONSKIS GYMNASIUM (FORMER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL)

The construction of schools was one of the most important tasks of modernizing social infrastructure in interwar Lithuania, which was in line with the general European trends. This school had a first-class reputation from the very start because it was built in the vicinity of the envisaged Resurrection Church. For perhaps the very first time in Lithuania the school’s structure followed the progressive principle of functional zoning. The first and only swimming pool in Lithuania was installed there. J. Jablonskis gymnasium can also be considered modern because of its architectural solutions: facades are level, without any “architectural decorations”. The composition stands out for a corner tower which was a classy architectural element at that time.  Year: 1931. Style: Modernism. Architect Antanas Jokimas.
