Kaunas Reservoir Regional Park was established in 1992 to preserve the unique landscape of the artificial lake. The formation of the Kaunas Reservoir started in 1959 when the water flooded the Town of Rumšiškės. The coast of Kaunas Reservoir is home to Kaunas Hydroelectric Power Plant as well as many other highly valued natural and architectural sites, such as Lithuanian Open Air Folk Museum, Pažaislis Monastery Architectural Complex and a yacht club. The Kaunas Reservoir park territory contains many outcrops, hill forts and valleys of unrivaled landscapes, the most favored of which is the unique Juniper Valley in Arlaviškės Village.
