Wearing Kaunas: Thank You, Julia Janus

The Kaunas top was unanimously chosen by the staff of Kaunas In as a representative uniform for international and local tourism events.

A smart-looking lady wearing a hat and stylish sunglasses, blended with your favourite example of modernist architecture in Kaunas – this is what a kaunastic top designed by Julia Janus looks like. Part of her city collage collection, the Kaunas top was unanimously chosen by the staff of Kaunas In as a representative uniform for international and local tourism events.

Julia Janus, a fashion designer that’s been in the spotlight for more than 20 years now, says Kaunas is essential for her because this is where she used to spend her summer vacation as a child: “I love its people, architecture, hills, textile and – as of recently – restaurants”. Julia Janus also believes Kaunas is the crossroad of Lithuania: “This is where south and north meet each other, as well as Nemunas and Neris rivers, the different cultures and even climate zones”.

The designer asked her fans and clients what they thought are the symbols of Kaunas before creating the final print. The respondents were very eager to contribute, and many of them mentioned an intelligent lady as the essence of the city. “I chose a portrait with modern touches, interpreted St. Gertrude's church as a hat and put the Central post office, the symbol of modernist architecture in Kaunas, in the background”, the designer deconstructs her piece.

The Kaunas tops for both him and her are available at Julia Janus store in Akropolis mall (there are also shops in Vilnius and Kaunas). You can even get them at Julia Janus online store. The tops are made from 96% viscose, 4% elastane and cost €49. Choose your favourite colour!
