The alarm clock is off, the duvet is crisp and white, and the sun is coming from an unusual angle. Sounds like you're on vacation! Take your time to prepare for another day of discovery, and then let's embark on a brunch mission together. There are a handful of spots on Kaunas' gastronomic map ready to become your favourites. So, we hope your holiday in our city lasts longer than a day, as you must discover that perfect benedict.

Marsas mieste

This new addition to the Old Town has a prehistory worth a half an hour's drive. The prehistory is called "Water on Mars", where wakeboarders spin in circles, and their tricks are most enjoyable to watch from the shore while chopping up delicious curd cakes. But that's only in the warm season; city dwellers want to eat daily. Hence, a new space, called Mars in the City, which boasts a stylishly dark interior reminiscent of a nightclub. After a visit to one, you'll most likely be craving a cosmic breakfast, which is precisely what you'll get here. Remember to take a photo before you eat - the Instagram algorithms will love it. DJs provide the music at weekends here; maybe they are the same ones you met the night before?

Holy Donut

Don't let the name of this place (or rather, all three of them—on Vilniaus and M. Valančiaus Streets and Vytauto Ave., the bus station) fool you. Yes, the doughnuts here are holy (because they can be vegan), but they are also divine. The bagels, pancakes, scrambled eggs, and other choices of the breakfast champions are divine, too. They are served all day long. Ron Swanson would love it here.

Boheme House

In Boheme House, every brunch wants to become a dinner. In fact, this is where we want to live. What would you have to do to make Boheme House your home?! If you know, please share. In the meantime, let's book a table in a place that has created a particularly cinematic aura reminiscent of the golden years of the Kaunas as the provisional capital of Lithuania and the rich bohemian life that flourished here. A brunch is something other than food here. It's something to celebrate.

Habits Bakery

The baker named Dovydas has already become a legend on Instagram. We know more than one person who has finally made it to Kaunas just because they saw a Habits Bakery reel in which this cheerful bloke bakes bubblegum croissants, teases the viewer with juicy sandwiches, or has culinary adventures. The tiny bakery that opened just a year ago is a real treat for Kaunas residents and visitors alike. Even on a weekday, be prepared to queue.

Vero Cafe (Vienybės a.)

If you suddenly feel like enjoying a late breakfast, it's good to know that there are places where your favourite dishes are ready to be served all day long. By the second time you return, the barista will remember how strong you want your Americano and whether you'll be craving a Benedict with chanterelles or salmon today. The interior is reminiscent of the best places in New York, and the view from the window, watching the stylish passers-by rushing through the Vienybės Square, is worth a million.

If no tables are available at any of the places in this TOP 5, we recommend you check out the other brunch-friendly gastronomic venues. These include Park Avenue in Vytautas Park, Brunch Bar near Boheme House (currently closed), Holas on Talutti Tex Mex, Bistronomė in Laisvės Avenue, the numerous bakeries that line the area, and, of course, the hotel restaurants. Enjoy!
